Katie Smith

Owner & Veterinarian

Growing up on a family farm in suburban New Jersey I was surrounded by the outdoors, animals and learning how to work for something you love.  Prior to high school I began riding on the local hunter/jumper circuit and was also an avid 4-H member.  My first experiences with veterinary science, livestock management and community involvement began through these hobbies.

During my undergraduate career at the University of Delaware I continued to ride for the intercollegiate equestrian team.  I then attended graduate school at Purdue University before holding several positions in the research sector.

Eventually, I followed my dreams of veterinary medicine which brought me back to Purdue to attend veterinary school.  Upon graduation, I worked in small animal general practice before starting Virginia Sinclair Veterinary Services.  My time in general practice often left me looking for more- something that could help those cases that we simply did not have answers for.  This curiosity led me to pursue continuing education in veterinary acupuncture rooted in the theories of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM).  Later on, I completed my certification in Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy (veterinary chiropractic).

My professional interests include integrating TCVM and VSMT with current western practices, sports medicine and lameness as well as how we can utilize TCVM to treat our production animals.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and family.  My hobbies include riding, paddle boarding, pilates, taking care of my horse (Sinclair) and convincing my husband that our dog (Brooks) would really like another Labradoodle in the house.
